UV Long-Life Auto Fade Meter is extensively used for colour fastness test of textile materials. An enclosed carbon arc lamp as the light source has the longest history of use among weathering test apparatus. It has an intense energy in the UV range (around 388 nm) and can be lighted continuously for 48 hours. U48AU has an automatic air control system with an air control value to mix circulating chamber-air and introduced ambient-air. It also includes a vaporizer, which allows for a highly precise control of temperature and humidity.
Applications
Paints & Coatings: Color retention and chalking resistance testing for exterior building paints, automotive finishes, anti-corrosion coatings, and industrial paints.
Plastics & Rubber: Brittleness and cracking assessment for outdoor plastic pipes, sealing gaskets, tires, and PP/PVC materials.
Textiles & Leather: UV resistance testing for sunshade fabrics, outdoor sportswear, synthetic leather, and synthetic fibers.
Ink & Printing: Lightfastness verification for advertising prints, packaging materials, and various color inks.
Adhesives: Bonding stability testing of structural construction adhesives, tapes, and sealants under prolonged UV exposure.

Technical Parameters
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| Light source | Composed of carbon arcs between upper and lower carbon rods, the arc voltage and arc current can be adjusted according to specific models. For example, some models have an arc voltage of 50V and an arc current of 60A. |
| Filter | Use specific glass filters, such as the Korex 7058 glass filter, to reduce unwanted radiation. |
| Temperature range | The temperature inside the test chamber can be adjusted as needed, usually within a certain temperature range, such as 0-80 °C. |

Test Procedures
Sample Loading: Secure specimens to the sample holder. Fill any empty spaces with spacers to maintain chamber pressure.
Lamp Verification: Install corresponding UVA or UVB lamps according to test standards and record lamp operating time.
Cycle Setup: Configure light intensity, temperature, and condensation/spray cycle duration in the controller.
Test Initiation: Verify water supply system, start equipment, and allow instrument to enter automatic cycle testing mode.
Process Monitoring: Periodically review irradiance readings and operational curves on the touchscreen to ensure data remains within tolerance limits.
Result Evaluation: Remove samples after testing concludes. Assess aging degree via visual comparison, color difference measurement, or physical strength testing.
Maintenance Information
Lamp Maintenance: Replace lamps sequentially every 1600-2000 operating hours to maintain stable irradiance energy.
Water System Cleaning: Use deionized or distilled water exclusively. Clean the water tank regularly to prevent scale buildup that impairs heating efficiency.
Sensor Calibration: Calibrate the irradiance sensor every six months to ensure internationally valid test data.
Environmental Requirements:
The test chamber should be placed in a well-ventilated laboratory, and the fan filter should be cleaned regularly.
